Ah, right... I tend to forget.

[ Emerald may have given him access to his Aura, but it's an ability he's hardly used. He's never had a need to.

Maybe later though, because his sunny side up is almost cooked. He's not quite sure what an "egg muffin" style is, so he just... cracks an egg over the pan and mixes it there. Akashi also has no cookie cutters.

It's his arm that has a scratch, a white line traces over his skin, but there's no blood. ]

So, how does it feel? [ It's her birthday, after all! She's got to be excited. ]

Floral. Kind of nervous, actually.

[ She moves over to rest her chin on his shoulder behind him while he cooks, staying out of the way but watching close. She wants to be near him, because being near Akashi is comforting.

She was honest about it being nervous. She texted a few people about her birthday last night just to.. let them know, but she is trying not to expect anything. Having expectations is setting herself up for disappointment, when she knows that she should just be happy that two people even cared. It wasn't like it was a real birthday so much as just a date she picked for sentimental reasons. But Emerald was never really going to get over that instinctual want for people to want her around. ]

It reminds me of the Flower Festival.

[ He gives her a kiss on the forehead before concentrating on cooking eggs. It's just bacon, eggs, and toast, so even someone like Akashi can prepare it. It won't take long! ]

Ah, it should be around this time, right? That's why I bought all these flowers in the first place.

[ To remind her of the festival! They're roses and not cherry blossoms though because roses are more romantic, he finds. ]

Why are you nervous?

[unhappy]

Did you buy out the entire flower shop?

[ She smiles and kisses his cheek back, but holds off from holding onto him so he can still move freely. It's best not to mess around with people while they're cooking so no one gets hurt! Even if she wants to latch onto him.. ]

It's my first birthday. I texted people I knew, but I guess I keep thinking no one's going to care. Which I can't really be mad at, it's just some day I picked...

[ She's never had people who cared about her before. She knows it's silly, but she's pretty sure if she has expectations, then she's going to end up disappointed. By everyone but Seijuro, anyway. ]

I ordered from three different shops.

[ That's how much he bought for her!!

For now, he'll concentrate on cooking, but he's still listening to her as she speaks. ]

You've made friends here, haven't you? If they're sensible people, they will at least greet you. [ If they don't... then Emerald needs to make better friends. ] Birthdays are special— at least, most people will agree.

[ With the eggs cooked (Emerald's are just scrambled), he carries their plates to the dining table. It's a little bit of a challenge to navigate the apartment thanks to all the roses, but hey! At least they make it there... ]

[ That's way too many shops, Akashi!! ]

I bet you're their favorite customer.

[ Emerald follows right behind Akashi as he cares the plates to the table, letting him lead the path through them. This is ridiculous and she's trying so hard not to start laughing about it... ]

Not really. Maybe. I don't think anyone would call me their friend. [ A little pause. ] Mafuyu or Ren might. Mercury won't say it just because he knows I want him to.

[ There are a few people she thinks she gets along with, she just doesn't.. really think they trust her or think of her as a friend. ]

I don't know if they think that but I want them to, and if they don't it means I'm not. So.. nervous.

Will I be the first to greet you, then?

[ He has yet to! He wants it to be while he's holding her... So breakfast may have to wait. ]

[unhappy]

Yeah, no one in their right mind wakes up this early. Of course you'd be first.

[ She pulls her lips up into a smile, not realizing what he wants so she starts to let go to sit down. ]

You're up right now, you know.

[ Well, that's okay... If she wants to sit down, he'll be quick and pull her seat for her, and then kiss her on the cheek once she's comfortable. ]

Happy birthday, Emerald.

[unhappy]

Yeah, I've spent enough time with you, I caught your crazy.

[ She sits down and smiles, then waits for him to sit down too. She's hoping next to her so she can hold his hand and eat with her left. Which is dumb but.. ]

I'm guessing you didn't wake Mayuzumi-san up.

[ The poor guy's gonna be so worried when he wakes up and Em's not there??? ]

He sleeps at normal times. I have little post-its I leave on the night stand if I leave.

[ Her sleeping schedule is still not what anyone could consider ideal. She gets up a lot and doesn't want him to worry, so she leaves little post-its if she's not just somewhere else in the apartment. ]

[ So long as Mayuzumi isn't left alone and wondering!! ]

Let's eat now.

[unhappy]

Yeah.

[ She smiles and goes to dig in. No itadakimasus from her, she doesn't know what that even means. ]

[ He, on the other hand, itadakimasus!! ]

Are the eggs alright?

[ He's aware it's not how she wanted them, after all. ]

[unhappy]

Yeah!

[ She puts a bite in her mouth to prove it! Yummy. ]

I'll show you the muffin eggs some other time.

They sound complicated...

[ Because it has muffins in the name, primarily... ]

You just put the egg in a cookie cutter in the pan so it cooks in the shape of a muffin, then you can make a sandwich with it. It's probably easier than other kinds of eggs, since it's contained when you try to push it with the flipper.

[ And then it's extra thick, too, which is what she likes. She likes them eggs thicc. ]

I see.

[ It still sounds a little complicated. ]

I don't have any cookie cutters, but perhaps I can buy some for next time.

[unhappy]

I'll bring one of mine over. They come in sets anyway.

[ It's not like she's using all three sizes of round cookie cutters from her value pack.. ]

So more shapes? Have you eaten an egg-shaped star?

[ That sounds ridiculous, if you asked him... But it could be nice to look at? ]

No, but it'd probably work. My cookie cutters are all circles.

[ Look she's not getting fancy with her cookies and eggs and stuff. Everything is just circles, she doesn't care enough about aesthetics to make like weird fancy dishes. The only thing that matters is if it tastes good and doesn't make a huge mess. ]

You can use them to make pancakes really thick too.

[glorifies]

But would the pancakes still be fluffy if they're thick?

[ He's not really that great at cooking, so he doesn't know the science to it. Emerald is free to tell him, though! ]

I don't think they're fluffy because they're thin.

[ Emerald doesn't know the science behind it either, she just knows thick pancakes are good. ]

I trust you. You know more about food than I do.

[ Though now, he has to wonder... ]

What would you like to do after we eat? It's your birthday, so we'll do whatever you want.

[ Ah, he thinks of something and wrinkles his nose. ]

But I won't do your laundry.
