⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Seijuro Akashi.
Age: 16.
Canon: Kuroko's Basketball.
Canon Point: Post-Series, before EXTRA Game.

Background: Akashi at the Kuroko's Basketball wikia.

Personality:

“In this world, winning is everything;
winners are validated and losers are denied."

Born with natural charisma, leadership, and ambition, Seijuro Akashi was fated to win and succeed in everything he did.

The Akashi family is a very prominent family in Japan, gifted with a lot of wealth. As such, Seijuro (who will be referred to as Akashi from here on in) was raised to be the heir to their family business. His father was very strict, expecting only the absolute best and nothing else from the heir. Receiving support was difficult, as Akashi's father wanted him to achieve everything on his own. His mother was his pillar of support during his childhood, and he would spend time with her as he played basketball. Unfortunately, his mother passed away when he was in 5th grade. The strict and harsh treatment of his father became much worse, and he grew up unhappy.

Despite his lonely and cheerless childhood, Akashi presents himself as a relatively mellow and very polite and respectful person. He speaks formally and addresses his peers by their last names. His small stature aside, Akashi reeks of power and pride. He may act amiable to the people he respects, but he believes himself to be the absolute in everything—skill or intelligence. Of course, who wouldn't? Akashi grew up obtaining what he wanted through his own abilities, after all.

School is where he considers himself "free"—where his father won't be able to control him or what he does. Even still, he aims for the top because it's not just something his father has pressured him to do, but it is something he believes he was born to do. As perfect as he may seem on the outside, he's very aware of his situation wherein he doesn't have much liberty to do what he wants most of the time. He is rarely seen hanging out with his teammates outside of school because he has to go home as commanded by his father. Even during his first day in school, he is driven in a limo because it's his father's orders. However, he eventually tells the chauffeur to drop him off at least a few blocks away after the first day. His reasoning for it is because it isn't needed and that he will be mocked if people continue seeing him receive special treatment. In his own way, he cares about what other people think. The darker side of his humility may be because he would rather show people what he can do, not what he was born into.

It may seem like Akashi has an inflated ego and is obnoxious because of how he was raised. However, Akashi is modest. While he is better at most things than others, he still encourages people to do their best and strive for something better. He's actually a down to earth and considerate person and a very good leader, when he's at his best state. Towards his teammates in the Teikou Middle School basketball team, he was always very respectful no matter what string they were in and he never shut anybody out. The care and compassion he showed to his peers was sometimes even a little too much, as some of his teammates would describe him as a nagger or their "mother". It's these traits that made him vice-captain of the team in his first year.

While not completely apathetic, Akashi is very calm and collected. He is also a very patient person, and has a high tolerance for people who are rowdy and noisy. His stoic stoic nature can be an advantage - especially in a game such as shogi where it's more mind than matter. It's said that his skills in shogi can make him a professional shogi player, which shows how skilled he is when it comes to thinking of strategies. He doesn't give his emotions away so easily and is able to fool just about anyone. At the same time, Akashi is too serious of a person that he has no idea how to tell jokes. He is still capable of humour, or at least, understanding jokes and playing the straight man. He just isn't able to be funny himself.

Akashi also doesn't talk much about his own issues: the pressure that society and his father puts on him to be the absolute is unbearable. While he isn't ashamed of who he is, he cannot make himself look like a fool in front of anybody. And despite how much he believes in himself and how much he cares for his friends, he grew insecure of his teammates and feared that they would leave him behind the more their skills blossomed. At this point in his life, he developed a second personality who was more ruthless and driven than his original one. His second personality eventually took over, shelving the original Akashi.

He may have natural charisma that makes him a good leader and makes people respect him, but Akashi's second or other personality is one who demands respect. He looks down on everybody else and even tells people that he is the absolute, which is unlike the original Akashi who is more introverted with his thoughts and beliefs. For someone so small, he can pack a death glare that can intimidate even teachers and coaches. And as the leader of the Generation of Miracles, the other five members have to submit to all his demands.

The idea of winning and being on top is pushed to the extreme when Akashi loses his tolerance for people who are rude and show no respect. Whether it's off court or while playing basketball, he explicitly says that the only ones who are allowed to look him in the eye without changing their line of sight are those who serve him. Anybody else has to bow down. In some cases, he actually uses his Emperor Eye ability to force people to fall over and get on their knees.

The other Akashi has also thrown away the care and compassion the original Akashi has towards his teammates. The respect is still there because he doesn't look down on people's skills, but upon the other Akashi becoming the dominant personality, he has discarded team play and cooperation. In his mind, there is only one thing that he and the team have to do: win. As such, he leaded the Teikou basketball team to win without caring about coordination between the members. When the Generation of Miracles lost the will to play because they just kept on winning and games became boring, Akashi suggested that they play their own game of who can score the most points in each game. The Akashi who loved basketball and played it because it took away his loneliness had been overshadowed.

Because Akashi has never lost in anything in his life, loss has become a concept that is either so disgusting or so foreign to him. Upon entering high school, he became the student council president of Rakuzan High, as well as the team captain of the basketball team. During the Rakuzan vs Shutoku match, he openly states that if Rakuzan loses, he will gouge his eyes out and give them to his teammates. This was no joke, either. Both his teammates and the Generation of Miracles (already split up and are members of Akashi's rival schools) all believed it and took it seriously; they knew that Akashi was capable of doing such a thing to himself. Being disobeyed is not something he tolerates either as he considers himself to be the law. When Kagami from Seirin talks back at him, he innocently borrows Midorima's pair of scissors and attacks Kagami with it.

Seijuro Akashi is extreme and condescending.

During the finals of the Winter Cup tournament, Akashi's skills in basketball are tested by Kagami and Kuroko, and his original personality resurfaces and takes over. His original personality wanted Akashi to fail and lose out of spite, but he decides to take over Akashi to continue playing. His other personality soon realises how wrong he was. Akashi now becomes more respectful and compassionate to his teammates whom he had initially discarded so he can win the game by himself, to the point where he even apologises for his sins—something anyone would never expect for him to do. And it's upon going back to his old self that Rakuzan's morale is boosted and Akashi himself becomes a stronger person.

Upon tasting defeat for the first time, he doesn't do anything extreme like gouge his eyes out or hurt himself. He uses it as inspiration to do better in the future and becomes the team player that he should have always been. Akashi mellows down literally and metaphorically. The aura of intimidation he's been radiating becomes less terrifying and more regal. He also begins to form positive relationships with his teammates and peers again. He even tries to speak to his upperclassmen in a more formal manner to the point that it became overbearing and his upperclassmen asked him to be more casual with them. He even befriends Mayuzumi, his teammate, whom he groomed and used to achieve victory. And with his original personality being awakened, he becomes accepted by his rivals and former teammates as a friend and no longer their enemy.

Despite his original personality resurfacing and being more likable to people, Akashi is still somebody who is formidable. He may have been "tamed", so to speak, but he still has pride in himself. He is still the leader of the Generation of Miracles and is still a captain of his school's basketball team, so he continues to carry himself with regality. In LAST GAME, when the Americans hurt Kuroko and belittle Japan's basketball, Akashi purposely speaks in English and calls them scum and that they (his team) will wipe the floor with them.

Akashi's other self was once considered an enemy, but after he (they) lost to Seirin, his original personality has kept his other personality in control. His other self knows better now and also learns how to be a team player. It is why his original personality still keeps in touch with his other self, not discarding the abilities that the other personality has and has honed. Akashi has better control of his dual personalities now which makes him an even more reliable and formidable person.

“And thus, by witnessing my glorious form,
you should now realize...
That your defeat is absolute."

Abilities:

As the leader of the Generation of Miracles—a team of exceptional basketball players—Akashi is talented in the sport and is considered to be the perfect Point Guard and playmaker. He has specific skills in his arsenal, such as:

- Emperor Eye: Akashi is capable of seeing every minute movement his opponent makes and is able to predict his opponent's next movements because of this. He is described as someone who can "see the future" because of his Emperor Eye. One of the things Akashi does when using his Emperor Eye is disrupting people's balance to make them fall over, or in some cases, kneel and bow down to him.

His original personality has the ability to use the Emperor Eye, but it is more effective when it is his "other" personality using it.

- ZONE: This is described as the state of a basketball player upon reaching their maximum potential. It's said that only players who are in the Zone are capable of using 100% of their skills and the requirement to even be able to enter the Zone is to have an extreme amount of passion towards the game and to be extremely talented. Whenever a player is in the Zone, their eyes will emit something similar to electricity, following the colour of their eyes.

Aside from basketball skills, Akashi, at his current canonpoint, has the ability to switch between his two personalities whenever he sees fit. He can also play the piano and the violin, and has a lot of other talents.

Alignment: Piphron. Upon his original self awakening, Akashi's regained his sense of camaraderie and relies on his friends whenever he can. (Plus, his other personality can only enter the Zone if and when he loses his trust in his teammates.)

General Sample: Here are some samples.

Emotion Sample:
(Based on the "National Libraries Day" prompt on the TDM!)

[ There truly is nothing more relaxing than a library. Akashi has situated himself with the crowd, a mug of steamed milk in hand (he is only drinking so he can become taller), and a small smile on his face as he listens to the people share their stories.

He recalls how he would have been if he had been somebody else. He wouldn't waste his time on pleasantries like this, after all. And yet, here he is, actually enjoying the company of strangers and, quite possibly, acquaintances.

When he's urged to share a story, he chortles as he sets his mug down on the nearby desk. He crosses his legs - one over the other - before he places his hands on his knees. ]

Autumn, [ Akashi speaks calmly. Warmly. Charisma oozes out of his voice - the very word drawling and lingering - making a statement. ]

How odd it is that I've fallen back in time. The National High School Basketball Championship tournament, or rather, the Winter Cup is just about to begin. My team, Rakuzan, would be training extensively. [ There's passion when he speaks, too. He loves basketball, after all. ]

Of course, the Winter Cup has already ended. Autumn was months ago, after all. Rakuzan had been the reigning champions of the Winter Cup for the past five years, and we only emerged at second place this year.

[ Some of the people listening frown, and some even let out "Aw"s and say words of encouragement to an Akashi whose smile seems to be fading. ]

Please don't worry. [ He looks up and faces his audience who seem to brighten at Akashi's words. They're filled with hope. ] Loss means that there is still means to become stronger. Next year, we will reclaim our title.

[ Just like that, the crowd goes wild, and the librarians immediately find themselves shushing over two dozens of people because they're cheering for the young boy who has managed to capture their hearts and sentiments. And while all of that is happening, the lights in the library blink every so often. The white light changing occasionally to red, yellow, green, blue, and purple. ]
