NAME: Seijuro Akashi
CANON: Kuroko's Basketball
CANON POINT: Post-Last Game + CRAU from
empatheias
AGE: 17
BACKGROUND: Akashi at the Kuroko's Basketball wiki.
Akashi was in Empatheais for a year and 7 months. Initially, his canonpoint was after The Best Present, Kuroko's birthday, where his other self/personality was still present.
These are some of the important events that happened to him during his stay there:
- He bought an abandoned lot and turned it into a basketball court as months passed by;
- Introduced basketball and started a basketball club in the city;
- Met a girl named Miu Hinasaki who eventually became his girlfriend for a few months;
- A player plot led to fog covering a part of the city. Akashi found himself in that part and saw his mother. His mother said a lot of nasty things about him and how he was a disappointment, and later on he saw his father who said the same things. His moment of weakness led to Dracula taking advantage of this and biting him;
- Akashi wanted to learn more and grow stronger—be relevant to the other Otherworlders in the city—which was why he participated in an excursion. He got poisoned from being shot by an arrow and almost died;
- Some time prior to Akashi's anniversary in Empatheias, Miu was dropped, which then led to...
- Akashi's other personality surfacing. He began to address others by their first names again;
- He was canon updated months later to Post-Last Game where his two personalities become one and his abilities become stronger;
- He arrives back in Empatheias with new memories and speaks to Emerald, somebody he's been friends with since a little after he initially arrived. They sort out their differences and begin dating.
PERSONALITY:
Born with natural charisma, leadership, and ambition, Seijuro Akashi was fated to win and succeed in everything he did.
Akashi's father was very strict, expecting only the absolute best and nothing else from his heir. Receiving support was difficult, as Akashi's father wanted him to achieve everything on his own. His mother was his only support during his childhood, and he would spend time with her as he played basketball. Unfortunately, his mother passed away when he was in 5th grade. The strict and harsh treatment of his father became much worse and he grew up unhappy.
Despite growing up in a lonely and cheerless environment, he presents himself as a relatively mellow, polite, and respectful person. He speaks formally when he can and addresses his peers by their last names. His small stature aside, Akashi reeks of power and pride. He may act amiable to the people he respects, but he believes himself to be absolute in some aspects. Akashi grew up obtaining what he wanted through his own abilities, after all.
School is where he considers himself "free"—where his father won't be able to control him or what he does. Even still, he aims for the top because it's not just something his father has pressured him to do, but it's something he believes he was born to do. The times when his father tries to control his activities in school, he mostly complies, but he tells his chauffeur to drop him off at least blocks away from school because he'll be mocked if people continue seeing him receive special treatment. In his own way, he cares about what other people think of him.
Akashi may seem like he has an incredibly inflated ego and is obnoxious because of how he was raised, but Akashi is modest. He's not somebody who brings people down even though he's better at it than them. He still encourages people to do their best and strive for something better. He's down-to-earth, considerate, and a great leader in his best state. Towards his middle school teammates, he was always respectful no matter what string they were in and he never shut anybody out. The care and compassion he showed his peers was sometimes even a little too much that he was described a "mother".
While not completely apathetic, Akashi is very calm and collected. He is also a very patient person, and has a high tolerance for people who are rowdy and noisy. His stoic stoic nature can be an advantage - especially in a game such as shogi where it's more mind than matter. It's said that his skills in shogi can make him a professional shogi player, which shows how skilled he is when it comes to thinking of strategies. He doesn't give his emotions away so easily and is able to fool just about anyone. At the same time, Akashi is too serious of a person that he has no idea how to tell jokes. He is still capable of humour, or at least, understanding jokes and playing the straight man. He just isn't able to be funny himself.
Akashi also doesn't talk much about his own issues: the pressure that society and his father puts on him to be absolute is unbearable. While he isn't ashamed of who he is, he cannot make himself look like a fool in front of anybody. Despite how much he believes in himself and how much he cares for his friends, he grew insecure of his teammates and feared that they would leave him behind the more their skills blossomed. At this point in his life, he developed a second personality who was more ruthless and driven than his original one. His second personality eventually took over, shelving the original Akashi.
It's upon realising that he could lose for the first time in his life that the original Akashi resurfaces, saying that his other self isn't capable of protecting their reputation. On the court, the original Akashi trusts his teammates completely, whereas the other Akashi only trusts himself. This is the main difference between the two, and upon returning to his old self, Rakuzan was able to play like a team again. And upon tasting defeat for the first time, he doesn't do anything extreme like gouge his eyes or hurt himself unlike what he said he would do if he lost. He uses it as inspiration to do better in the future and becomes the team player that he should have always been. Akashi mellows down dramatically—both literally and metaphorically. The aura of intimidation he's been radiating becomes less terrifying and more regal. He also begins to form positive relationships with his current and former teammates again. He even tries to speak to his upperclassmen in a more formal manner, calling them senpai, but this was too creepy that his senpai asked him to speak to them casually instead. Akashi even befriends Mayuzumi, his teammates, whom he groomed and used to achieve victory. With his original personality being awakened, he becomes accepted by his rivals and former teammates as a friend and no longer their enemy.
Despite his original personality resurfacing and becoming more likable, Akashi is still somebody who is formidable. He is still the leader of the Generation of Miracles and is still a captain of his school's basketball team, so he continues to carry himself with regality. In Last Game, when the Americans hurt Kuroko and belittle Japan's basketball, Akashi purposely speaks in English and calls them scum and that they will wipe the floor with them.
Empatheias didn't change Akashi as a person much. He's still the same person who strives to be the best and wants the best for everyone. If anything, a major development he's had throughout his stay there is that he doesn't blame himself as much anymore for what he did to his friends — he's getting better. He's healing and has a lot more room for growth.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
As the leader of the Generation of Miracles—a team of exceptional basketball players—Akashi is talented in the sport and is considered to be the perfect Point Guard and playmaker. He has specific skills in his arsenal, such as:
- Emperor Eye: Akashi is capable of seeing every minute movement his opponent makes and is able to predict his opponent's next movements because of this. He is described as someone who can "see the future" because of his Emperor Eye. One of the things Akashi does when using his Emperor Eye is disrupting people's balance to make them fall over, or in some cases, kneel and bow down to him. He's able to use his eye on and off the court.
- ZONE: This is described as the state of a basketball player upon reaching their maximum potential. It's said that only players who are in the Zone are capable of using 100% of their skills and the requirement to even be able to enter the Zone is to have an extreme amount of passion towards the game and to be extremely talented. Whenever a player is in the Zone, their eyes will emit something similar to electricity, following the colour of their eyes.
Aside from basketball skills, he can also play the piano and the violin, and has a lot of other talents.
INVENTORY:
- A shogi set
- His gym bag with his Vorpal Swords jersey & change of clothes
- Rakuzan gym bag
- A light blue/purple pendant from Empatheias
- Yukimaru, his horse (horses can fit through a door, right...)
- His violin
